RIO SQUAD

 

In addition to the 4 High Performance squads supported and funded by High Performance Sport New Zealand, Athletics New Zealand will now introduce a “Rio 2016 Athletics New Zealand Performance Squad”. Funding and support for the programme will come from a number of varied sources throughout the sport. The Rio squad will be directed by Terry Lomax (Rio 2016 Performance Project Manager).

 

SUMMARY
To be considered for the Rio squad, athletes will be evaluated by:

 

A. Athletes, who have indicated, via the 2012/13 Performance Levels deemed as indicators of potential, an ability to achieve Top 16 status at the 2016 Olympic Games.

B. Athletes, who are at an age where development to Top 16 at the 2016 Olympic Games may not yet be indicated, by absolute performance standards but are deemed to have the potential to do so.

Benefits and Responsibilities
Athletes that are selected for the Rio squad can expect to receive the following benefits and have the following responsibilities.

 

Coach/Athlete Pair Program Relationship
Under the direction of the Rio2016 Performance Project Manager, this is the envisioned relationship and interaction between the Rio2016 Performance Project Manager : Coach : Athlete.
